Schererville residents can look forward to a new addition to the dining scene in the near future. Cooper’s Hawk, a renowned winery and restaurant chain, is set to open its doors in the town. The Schererville Plan Commission recently approved the establishment’s location at the Shops on Main development.
The restaurant will be situated on a spacious 2.14-acre property on Main Street, in the northeast quadrant of the Shops on Main. The upscale establishment will span nearly 10,000 square feet and will include a winery and a restaurant, with seating for 259 patrons. Additionally, 100 parking spaces will be available, along with valet parking services.
Schererville Town Councilman Tom Schmidt expressed excitement about Cooper’s Hawk’s arrival, applauding the business as a classy addition that aligns perfectly with the other establishments at the Shops on Main. He emphasized that the location in Schererville will not replace the existing one at Hobart’s Southlake Mall, ensuring that customers in both areas will have access to the unique experience provided by Cooper’s Hawk.
Apart from the benefit to local dining options, the new establishment is also expected to contribute significantly to the town’s economy. Town Manager Jim Gorman estimated that Cooper’s Hawk will generate an additional $150,000 in property tax revenue. This influx of funds will support ongoing development projects, such as the Kennedy Avenue project, aimed at improving traffic flow in the area.
The town has been actively acquiring property along Kennedy Avenue and has secured funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration’s Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program to construct a bridge over the nearby railroad tracks. This infrastructure development will help alleviate traffic congestion on U.S. 41 and Main Street.
While construction on Cooper’s Hawk is projected to begin by the end of 2024 or early 2025, completion of the entire Kennedy Avenue project is still a few years away. Nonetheless, the anticipation is building, and residents eagerly await the opening of this exciting new restaurant and winery.
